L1690 · Z-rail VMC
Review tall and deep parts on a Z-rail platform.

Machine details
A 1,600 x 800 mm table carrying 1.5 t, with 1,600 x 900 x 700 mm travels and a BT50/190 spindle at 6,000 rpm — the L-series answer to large mould bases and fixture plates.
Z rides the column rail, so the head does not hang off a saddle at full extension. That is the point of the L layout at this size: a 1,600 mm table means long parts, and long parts mean the spindle spends its life near the top of its travel. X and Z use 55-size guides, Y uses a 45-size four-rail arrangement, and all three screws are 5010 C3.
The table is 1,600 x 800 mm with 7-22-110 T-slots and a 1,500 kg load rating. Travels are 1,600 x 900 x 700 mm with 20/20/16 m/min rapids. The spindle is BT50 with a 190 mm nose at 6,000 rpm, in a short-nose cartridge, and a 24-station magazine changes tools in 2.5 s. Positioning is 0.008 mm with 0.005 mm repeatability.
A balance cylinder is fitted as standard at this table weight, and the machine stands 4,200 x 3,270 x 3,680 mm at about 11,800 kg. Typical work is large mould bases, press and die sets, fixture plates and welded frames that need faces, bores and pockets in one setup.
