Why this size
The VMC1580 puts a 1600 x 800 mm table, rated to 1500 kg, under 1500 mm of X travel. Die plates, long weldments and machine frames that would need a second setup on a 1200 mm table are machined through in one operation.
Y travel is 800 mm and Z travel 700 mm, with 860 mm of spindle nose clearance at the top of the stroke. Deep pockets and tall fixtures stay inside the envelope without stepping the part around the table.
A BT50-155 taper at 6,000 rpm carries the torque for heavy roughing in steel and cast iron, and the larger taper resists deflection in deep cavities. A 24-station disc magazine changes tools in 2.5 seconds. At 10,000 kg on a 4300 x 3200 x 2800 mm footprint, rapids of 20 / 20 / 15 m/min suit the distances between features on work this size.
